You’ve Been Tangoed

With summer on the horizon, it’s time to start flashing some flesh. We are all aware that sunbeds and too much sun are bad for our skin so we don’t even want to go down that route. Luckily, there are lots of amazing self-tanning products out there which promise a gorgeous sun kissed glow. Sadly we all know that even if “no streaks” is advertised it is all down to the application!

For a gorgeous “Have you been away?” even tan:

  • Exfoliate all over. Even your face. This will give you a nice, smooth, even base to work with
  • If you are shaving/waxing, do so before tanning. Blast cold water over your legs afterwards to close open pores
  • Use a light oil-free moisturiser on key dry areas such as elbows, knees and hands
  • Apply a little Vaseline barrier on eyebrows and cuticles
  • Wearing tanning mits, start at the top of your feet and work your way upward. Use long strokes and circles to blend in nicely
  • Once your body is done, remove the mits and rub the back of your hands on your lower back to give a soft coating of tan to your hands, without having to use your palms. Use a cotton bud on your cuticles if they need it
  • Soften the tan on your inner wrists with a tissue to prevent a harsh line
  • If wearing tan overnight, try to sleep carefully so as not to leave any marks
  • Have a cold shower in the morning so you don’t lose too much tan

Followed these steps but still have sexy (not) streaks? Here are some tips to help remove them:

  • For orange hands, mix some lemon juice with salt and rub between your fingers
  • Gently exfoliate to help break up the tan
  • A whitening toothpaste will help lift the tan as it would do the stains on your teeth
  • If you have managed a Ross from Friends, cover yourself in coconut oil or similar and relax in a nice bath. Hot water and oil will speed up the tan removal process

We wish you a streak free sun kissed Summer!
